Chaos. Trials. Suffering. We all experience it.

Hey Fam —

Allow me to begin by sharing a glimpse into a challenging chapter of my life, the year 2019. Looking back, it appears as a blur, marked by a relentless series of trials. It seemed as though pain and suffering were my constant companions, and I often found myself wondering when the chaos would finally surrender.

During this tough period, my mom was engaged in a fierce battle with ovarian cancer, my daughter Grace had just entered the world, and my marriage faced a series of daunting challenges from the very beginning. These were deep and turbulent waters I was tasked with navigating.

I bring up these memories not to dwell on the hardships but to emphasize that none of us are immune to tough times. We all encounter moments that, in the midst of them, seem never-ending. As you read this, you may find yourself in the midst of a personal storm, wrestling with questions of how to endure, whom to turn to, and what drives you forward.

One thing I have learned is the value of a supportive community. In times of trial, it is the strength of the relationships we've nurtured that often sustains us. It's a reminder that we need one another.

In this context, I'd like to recommend a book that has been instrumental in my own journey: "A Man's Search for Meaning." It helped me understand that when you become a father, life is no longer solely about yourself; every decision is framed by what's best for your family, especially your children.

A mentor once shared a valuable insight with me: "Shorten the field." Rather than thinking in terms of months, weeks, and days, focus on the here and now, down to the minutes and seconds. What will you do in the next five minutes? It's in these small, deliberate moments that significant change can take root.

While it's tempting to question why God allows troubles to enter our lives, I won't attempt to answer that complex question. However, I hold an unwavering belief that even in our lowest and weakest moments, God is at work, shaping us for something greater—perhaps in this life, and most certainly in the next.

To those who may feel that your storm will never end, I encourage you to keep going. Character is being formed.  Lean into your faith, press into the Lord, and remember that, even in the darkest hours, He is with you.

To Fathering Well,

Bryant
