Creating Connection: The Power of a Bedtime Routine

Hey Dads,

Let's chat about bedtime routines, a nightly ritual that has become a cornerstone of my connection with my daughter. Here's how it goes down:

1. "Proud of You":

When she is with me, I take a moment to let her know how proud I am of her. It's a simple, yet powerful, affirmation that sets the tone for a peaceful night.

2. "Love You":

Before tucking her in, a heartfelt "love you" is a must.

3. "I'm Proud of You" (again):

Repetition is key. Reminding her that I'm proud of her is a constant, reassuring presence as she drifts off to sleep.

4. "I Love Being Your Dad":

Expressing my love for being her dad is a reminder of the joy she brings into my life.

5. "It's OK to Feel That Way":

Bedtime can bring out unexpected emotions.  If I can tell she is a little off I’ll ask her how’s she feeling.  Whatever her emotions may be at that time, I’ll do my best to assure her that it’s okay to feel what she’s feeling.  I believe this opens the door to understanding and connection.

At times I’ll say, "Tell Me More About That.”  This is a good phrase because it invites her to express herself.

We will end the routine with nightly prayers.  It's a peaceful way to express gratitude and to connect with our Heavenly Father.

Remember, dads, bedtime routines are about more than just getting ready for sleep. They're opportunities to nurture relationships, share values, and create lasting memories. Sweet dreams to you and your little ones.

I turned 35 this past week.
