Serving Up Power + Purpose: Pickleball Tips, Fatherhood Wins & Faith Growth 🚀

Faith | Pickleball | Fatherhood

Hey Tribe!

A big welcome to all our new subscribers! If this is your first time here, I’m thrilled to have you. Please reach out and let me know what kind of pickleball content you'd like to see next to help level up your game. Now, let's dive into this week's tips, stories, and a few reflections on faith and family life.

Pickleball Tips: Turn Your Serve Into a Weapon 🎾

Your serve can make or break your game. Here’s how to add that edge:

1. More Power, Less Effort

  • Foot Placement: Point your front foot toward the net post. This little trick will engage your hips for extra power.

  • Stay Loose: Think of your arm as a spaghetti noodle—whip it through. Too much tension? You’re killing your power.

2. Add That Spin

  • Brush Low to High: To create topspin, brush up on the ball from low to high. This spin gives you extra control and makes the serve tricky for your opponent to return.

If you’re not using spin yet, you're not leveling up. Try it and see the difference next time you hit the court!

This Week on X/Twitter: Fix Your Serve Mindset

Let’s talk about the mental side of serving. Here’s the reality: you’re probably being told to “just get the serve in.” That’s a mistake! If you’re not starting the point with an aggressive mindset, you’re already playing defense.

Real Game Changer: The key isn’t speed—it’s depth. A deep, powerful serve pins your opponent and puts you in control. High lob serves can also disrupt timing if done right. Mix it up. Consistency and variety are more important than the occasional rocket.

So, what’s the one thing you’ll change next time you serve? Hit reply and let me know. 👇

Austin Highlights: Lessons, Games, and Tracking the Erne

This week in Austin, I had a blast teaching some lessons and even squeezed in some high-level games. I focused on tracking the Erne shot—a great way to jump the kitchen and surprise opponents by intercepting their shot. It’s all about watching your opponent’s paddle and moving decisively. If you’re curious about adding the Erne to your game, let’s chat!

Also, I’m now offering virtual lessons! So even if you’re not local, we can still work together to get your game to the next level.

YouTube: New Long-Form Content is Coming Soon!

Yesterday, I filmed my very first long-form YouTube video, kicking off a journey that’s about more than just pickleball. I’m opening up to share stories about faith, fatherhood, overcoming setbacks, and finding purpose even when life gets tough. If there’s a topic you want to hear about, let me know!

Fatherhood Update: Soccer Goals and Pajama Days 🧦

Parenting highlights this week included pajama day at school and another soccer game! My daughter is starting to get really into the challenge of soccer, and it’s been amazing watching her grow and enjoy learning something new. But don’t worry, we’re still hitting dinks together too! Every time we’re out there, I remember the importance of being present and bringing that Big Dad Energy.

Faith Corner: Growing in Wisdom and Prudence

I tuned into a great podcast this week that really hit home. It made me reflect on what we ask God for in our prayers. The host talked about praying for wisdom and prudence, which are virtues that can improve every area of our lives. Wisdom helps us see what truly matters, while prudence allows us to navigate our choices with care. These are qualities that help us show up stronger in all our relationships, even when life’s unpredictable.

If you’re looking for a way to grow in faith, start with this simple prayer: ask for wisdom and prudence, and watch how it shapes your week.
